Collects and processes lab specimens and performs clinical laboratory testing, including manual and automated methods, in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures. Responsible for pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical phases of testing. Ensures all medical laboratory safety standards and quality requirements are met. Must utilize critical and independent judgement in decision-making and problem-solving. Serves as a laboratory resource to other health care personnel. Day-to-day lead and acts as the point person in the absence of a supervisor.
Adheres to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Adheres to relevant policies and ethics for clinical laboratory testing. Collects medical specimens with strict adherence to established procedures and test requisitions. Displays strong personal commitment to organizational success, inspiring others to commit to shared goals. Identifies available resources and support systems for troubleshooting. Maintains current certifications in specialty and continues education when necessary. Presents a professional image, especially when dealing with customers. Promotes organizational learning through knowledge management, training and development, and sharing key experiences. Seeks opportunities to help others learn as teacher, coach, and mentor. Works with quality assurance methods, tools and techniques.
Bismarck Medical Center is a high complex Laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment that services a level II emergency and trauma center, and a 220 plus bed hospital. Areas of testing include chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, immunology, immunohematology, microbiology and histology.
This position is a full time position of 70 hours per pay period, 35 hours a week working seven 10-hours shifts in a row, alternating with one other lead tech, Wednesday through Thursday evening alternating weeks between the hours of 2:00 pm and 12:30 am.along with every-other weekend. This tech must possess strong leadership skills to lead by example on the evening shift.
Possess a national certification for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) through an approved Health and Human Services (HHS) agency, for example American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) also acceptable. If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. Maintain continuing education credits equivalent to the state requirements as needed for license and certifications. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Bachelors degree in Laboratory or Biological Sciences required. Two years of laboratory related experience preferred.
